A dose without a baseline is a guess
Two people with identical symptoms — tired, sleeping badly, training without progress — can have opposite underlying pictures. One has genuinely low testosterone with normal inflammation. The other has normal testosterone and markedly elevated hs-CRP. The same protocol helps the first and does nothing useful for the second. Symptoms tell you something is wrong; they do not tell you what.
A baseline is also how you find out it worked
Without a starting number there is no way to distinguish a real response from a good month. People feel better for many reasons, including the simple fact of having done something. A retest is the only part of this process that can tell you the difference, and it only works if there was a first measurement to compare against.
And it is how safety monitoring happens
Several of the things a physician may prescribe here can move markers that matter: red cell mass, lipids, liver enzymes, prostate-specific antigen, glucose regulation. Monitoring those is not bureaucracy. It is the mechanism by which a problem is caught while it is still a number rather than a symptom.
What a panel cannot do
A panel is a snapshot, and a snapshot of a system that moves. Hydration, a hard session two days ago, a short night, an infection you have not noticed, the time of day and where you are in a cycle all move numbers. A single surprising value is usually repeated before anyone acts on it. And a panel is not a screen for every disease — it does not replace age-appropriate screening with your own physician.
